Gated to your students
An email gate puts a register in front of every document; the domain allowlist scopes it to your institution or client domain, so materials stay inside the cohort.
Video inside the workbook
Draw a hotspot on any page and attach video, audio, an image, or a link - the walkthrough video lives on the page it explains, and every play is counted.
Read receipts on the record
Students confirm they received and read the material, and the confirmation sits next to their reading session - useful for compliance trainings and prework.
Who studied, who skimmed
Per-page time and the read-through funnel show which chapters were worked through and which were skipped - before the cohort shows up underprepared.
Distribution is easy - accountability is the feature
Any LMS can hand a PDF to a student. What it usually cannot tell you is what happened next: whether the prework was opened the night before or never, whether the cohort actually reached chapter four, whether the struggling student is behind because the material is hard or because it is unread. A FileDroppr link answers with data: every session, every page, every minute of reading time - per student when the email gate is on.
For paid courses and corporate training, the same gate is the access control. Materials shared as raw attachments are shared forever, with anyone; a gated link checks every reader against the register, and the domain allowlist limits access to the company or campus you sold the course to. When the cohort ends, expire the links - or leave them up forever on Pro. Your call, not the file format’s.
The workflow, feature by feature
- Upload the materials, gate them (Pro). One link per workbook or module. The email gate validates addresses server-side; the allowlist scopes access to your cohort domains.
- Embed the media with hotspots (Pro). Video walkthroughs, audio pronunciation guides, links to exercises - drawn straight onto the page they belong to, played without leaving the document.
- Turn on read receipts (Basic). Students confirm completion in the viewer; the receipt lands next to their session. For compliance modules, that is the audit trail.
- Teach from the readership. The funnel shows where the cohort stalled; per-page time shows which sections dragged. Revise the material where the data says to, not where the loudest student does.
Updates, comments, and the long tail
Course materials are living documents. Fix an erratum or refresh a chapter and every link already distributed serves the new version - no re-uploads to the LMS, no "please use v3" emails. Reader comments let students ask questions on the exact page that confused them, privately to you or visibly to the class.
Privacy holds up in institutional reviews: readership is measured first-party in the viewer, no student IP address is ever stored, and files are encrypted at rest. You get the register and the reading data without collecting anything a data-protection officer will object to.
Course material questions.
How do I restrict course PDFs to enrolled students?
Put the document behind the email gate (Pro) and add your cohort domains to the allowlist - for a university cohort, the campus domain; for corporate training, the client company domain. Readers outside those domains are refused at the gate, and every session inside is attributed to a named student.
Can I embed video lectures in the course PDF?
Yes - interactive hotspots (Pro) let you draw a region on any page and attach video, audio, an image, or a link. Students play the video right on the page, and every interaction is counted in your readership report.
How do I know whether students did the reading?
The readership report shows every session per student (with the email gate on): pages read, time per page, and the read-through funnel across the document. Read receipts add an explicit confirmation for compliance-style trainings.
What happens when I update the materials mid-course?
Replace the PDF behind the link and every student link serves the new version immediately - nothing to redistribute. The readership history carries straight on.
Which plan do educators need?
Free covers trying it with a handout. Basic ($9/month) adds read receipts, per-page analytics, and password protection. Pro ($29/month) adds the email gate, the domain allowlist, hotspots for embedded media, and never-expiring links for evergreen materials.
Put the syllabus on links.
Upload a workbook, gate it to your cohort, embed the walkthrough video, and see exactly what was studied.
